Warren man sentenced for fraudulent sports memorabilia ring

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – One of several local people accused in a multi-million dollar fraud ring was sentenced in Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas Monday.

Shawn Pelo, of Warren, was sentenced to five years of probation. In court, he apologized to those affected.

Pelo was convicted of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity for selling fake sports memorabilia with forged signatures through an eBay account to more than 20,000 victims nationwide.

Jason Lenzi of Columbiana, James Serenko and Jason Moore of Austintown, Daniel Martini of Girard, Steven Mulinchak of Nevada and Daniel Marino were also convicted for their roles in the crime. Their take was between $1.5 million to $2.5 million over a five-year period, according to Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor Marty Desmond.

They will be sentenced at a later date.
