Niles, OH (WYTV) – The Niles Red Dragons are coming off a 3 win season, but don’t let the numbers fool you. Experience has this team ready to make a big surge in 2016.
Head coach Brian Shaner is back for a 14th season. He said, this is one of the best senior classes they’ve had in awhile.
“These guys have lived it,” said Shaner. “They know what’s coming up. we just hope they they have that success here at the end that they’ve worked and strived for. again, great class. the city should love this class and hopefully they bring us a lot of success.”
The Red Dragons have 55 players out total, 20 of them are seniors. That starts up front in the trenches. The defense has got to be better…they gave up nearly 40 points per game last season. A strong linebacking corps of Ricky Palmer and Preston Turner will hopefully turn things around.
As for the offense, Tyler Srbinovich is their guy.. He’s a dual threat quarterback that’s racked up 35 touchdowns the past two seasons. His big target is classmate Marlon Pearson, who’s another 4 year starter with big-play ability. Pearson went for 9 touchdown grabs last season alone.
“It would mean the world to the city because we haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2012,” said Pearson. “They were 8-3, and then the past few season we went downhill and we’re just trying to make a comeback.”
