BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Boardman nursing home has shown improvement after being listed on Medicare’s watch list.
Greenbriar Center was added to the special watch list, known as the government’s “Special Focus Facility” initiative, after reports of poor conditions and management there.
At Greenbriar, inspectors accused employees of stealing medications from patients. State reports also show Greenbriar has had issues with proper record keeping for health and medications. Patients reported preventable injuries and bedsores.
Medicare and Medicaid requires routine surveys or inspections of nursing homes to determine appropriate quality of care. Nursing homes with more problems than the average, with more serious problems or a pattern of serious problems are placed on a watch list, which requires them to have more inspections. If problems persist, the nursing homes could face fines and termination from the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
A nursing home may graduate from the Special Focus Facility program if they continue to make significant improvements.
