YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – It’s time for back-to-school shopping again, and parents can expect their wallets to be hit hard.
According to the Huntington Backpack Index, parents with a child in middle school can expect to pay more than $900 in back-to-school costs this year. That cost increases to $1,500 for high school students, up almost 7 percent from last year.
Teresa McCrae, a parent of a middle school student, said she will be heading out this weekend to take part in Ohio’s Tax-Free Weekend, due to the high costs.
“It is expensive, because now that he’s in middle school, you have to buy paper and things that he needs — shoes and clothes,” she said.
Ohio’s Tax-Free Weekend starts this Friday and ends Sunday at midnight.
