2016 Champion Football Preview

Champion is going for their first playoff appearance since 1994

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – Champion is coming off a 4-6 season in 2015. The Golden Flashes are loaded this year with 16 returning starters and a new head coach.

Nick Wagner takes over the program after Terry Howell stepped down this past January. Wagner served as the offensive coordinator for Valley Christian in recent years.

Wagner inherits a relatively young team, but he has good numbers to work with as 40 total players have come out this season.

Senior Brandon Allen is back under center as a dual-threat quarterback. He’ll look to Noah Bayus as a reliable target at wide receiver.

The defense is led by linebacker Griffin Howell and Chris Chaney, who are both coming off strong 2015 campaigns.

The Golden Flashes will compete in the All-American Conference Blue Tier where they went 3-3 in the division last year. The Golden Flashes have couple tough games down the stretch including one against rival Lakeview in Week 9.

Champion is going for their first playoff appearance since 1994.
