Bond set for Youngstown murder suspect

Deondre Gayles is charged in the shooting death last month of 20-year-old Ralph Thomas

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Bond was set at $500,000 Tuesday for a Youngstown man accused of murder.

A prosecutor asked for a high bond, because there were two victims in the case — one of which was shot but was not fatally injured.

Deondre Gayles is charged in the shooting death last month of 20-year-old Ralph Thomas. Prosecutors say Gayles shot Thomas while he was driving near the Brier Hill Annex apartments.

Gayles pleaded not guilty to several charges including aggravated murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. He is scheduled to appear for a pretrial at 1:30 p.m. August 15.

Anthony Brown is also charged in the case. Police say Brown lied to them during the investigation.
