YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Leaders with the local United Way and Kiwanis Club of Youngstown joined school administrators to cut the ribbon for brand new playground equipment at Taft Elementary on Tuesday afternoon.
Directors with Kiwanis say they had money available to make a donation as part of the group’s 100th anniversary in the Valley. They reached out to United Way executive Bob Hannon.
“We knew about their programs focusing on the children, so I called him. He said, ‘Rob, I have the perfect idea. This playground.’ I said, ‘You know, we want something lasting,'” Rob Gardner said. “We got together and it just took off for them, and it’s a great project for Valley kids.”
Kiwanis members donated $10,000 to pay for the new equipment and landscaping.
