Mathews Mustangs High School Football – Vienna, Ohio

VIENNA, Ohio (WYTV) – Mathews is coming off back-to-back playoff seasons, but gone is a loaded senior class. That group included 2,000-yard rusher Bryan Leipply.

John Protopapa takes over as head coach this season after serving as assistant the past four seasons.

He knows the system well, but he plans on putting his own stamp on the program.

The Mustangs return five starters on both sides of the ball, but have to replace the entire starting offensive lineman. The Canter brothers are back with Dillon at quarterback and twin brother Daniel joins him in the backfield.

The defense must replace five of the team’s seven tackle leaders from a year ago.

The Mustangs will compete for an NAC title again this season after they finished second last year with a 3-1 league record. The players said the goal is to win a conference title and get back to the playoffs for a 3rd straight year.

A tough second half of the schedule with three straight road games to round out the regular season.
