YOUNGSTOWN, OH (WKBN)-it was almost a storybook season for the Ursuline Irish in 2015. The school reached their 9th state final four in football—but the luck of the Irish ran out in a loss to Steubenville. Can Ursuline make another deep run and grab the schools 5th state football title in school history in 2016?
Larry Kempe is in his 5th season in charge at Ursuline and welcomes back 5 starters on offense and six on defense.
The most glaring hole is at running back where the Irish lose their 12-hundred yard runner from a year ago. Dakota Hobbs will see an extended role there this season.
Jared Fabry is also back under center this year after gaining over one thousand yards of total offense and 9 scores.
Big Jeff Marx anchors the offensive and defensive lines, all 290-pounds of him.
Four straight trips to the postseason under Kempe for the Irish, and they have all intentions of making it five this year.
“Oh, we’re hungry. We’re trying to get us back going. Get our legacy going again. We haven’t had one in a while,” says senior Anise Algahmee.
“Even like last year, we went far into the playoffs, the school was talking. It was making a nice energy in the class and stuff. So, we’re really trying to get it back.”
“We are going to play. We are getting ourselves into the playoffs,” says Kempe.
“And then, what we do after that is entirely up to us. But yea, we’re a fifteen week program. I’ve said that for the four or five years that I’ve been here. And it’s not gonna change.”
