Sharon, PA (WYTV) – The Tigers were the talk of Western PA for most of last season. 10 wins and a Region 3 Championship. But they fell just short of a District 10 title. That’s the big goal this year in a new Region 2 re-alignment, alongside rival Hickory once again.
Head coach Jim Wildman is back for a 29th season at the helm. He came back to Sharon in 2013 and has put up 22 wins in three seasons. Good numbers out again this year with 54 players and 10 returning starters. Senior J.P. McComb takes over at QB. He’s got big shoes to fill following Andrew Tomko, who put up back-to-back two thousand yard seasons.
They’ve got great speed at the skill positions. Junior Ziyon Strickland is back after setting the school’s single season receiving record last fall. As for the defense, 6 of their top 7 tacklers are gone, but Jaquan Waller returns after racking up 11 and a half sacks as a junior.
The Tigers will look for another Region crown this season after going 7-0 in Region 3 play last season. They’re going for their first District 10 Title since 2010 after Hickory’s won the last 5. So Week 4 and Week 9 against Sharpsville are the big ones on the regular season schedule.
