Farrell, PA (WYTV) – 2015 was a season to remember for the Farrell football team. 14 wins, a District Title, and a trip to the State Championship game. But with a loaded senior class now gone, how does this year’s team regroup for a possible repeat performance in 2016?
That’s what head coach Jarrett Samuels has to figure out this season. Numbers are up after that championship run with total 36 players and 11 returning starters.
The offensive line needs work with just one returning starter, so their development will be crucial this season. Sophomore Kyi Wright takes over at quarterback. He’s a great athlete at 6 foot 4. Fans can expect him to make some big plays this season.
Senior Braxton Chapman returns as an explosive running back after racking up over 14 hundred yards rushing last year with 15 touchdowns.
Jordan Townsend is another playmaker to keep your eye on at wide receiver. The defense is led by many of the same guys, after giving up just 13 points per game last season.
The Steelers will compete for a Region 1 and District 10 title this season. They finished 5-1 in league play last year, but of course went on to beat Sharpsville in the D-10 Championship game.
