Former Traficant aide facing new charges in theft from elderly woman

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A one-time aide to former Congressman Jim Traficant has been indicted on new charges.

Linda Kovachik was arrested in June on a charge of theft, accused of stealing from an elderly Canfield woman. Now, she has been indicted on new charges of theft and forgery.

Police say Kovachik convinced the victim to sign over power of attorney. Investigators said Kovachik then cashed a number of the woman’s savings bonds, using the money to pay off her own gambling debts.

Kovachik is due back in court later this month.
