North Bloomfield man arrested after police find weapons in car

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – Police arrested a North Bloomfield man after finding weapons in his vehicle Thursday night.

Officers said they began investigating suspicious activity behind the old Preston car dealership on Youngstown Road in Warren around 10:15 p.m.

They questioned the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Joseph Barnett, who told them he had a gun in the vehicle.

He told police that he and two passengers had been dumpster diving.

Police said they found a .223 caliber semiautomatic rifle, two boxes of ammunition, a pair of brass knuckles, a lock blade knife and a rifle sling.

According to a police report, Barnett did not have a concealed carry permit and is charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
