‘Suspicious’ fire destroys Niles Football Mothers’ stand

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Firefighters are investigating what sparked a fire that destroyed the Dragon Wagon at Bo Rein Stadium in Niles early Friday morning.

The Niles Football Mothers Club lost everything in the fire, including about $5,000 worth of merchandise for the upcoming season. Firefighters don’t know how it started but believe it’s suspicious.

Now, the football mothers are left scrambling with only six days left until the Dragon’s home opener against Girard.

“We’re all trying to process it, but somehow we’ll pull it together, and Thursday we will have something. We’ll have a tent set up with some Dragon wear items. We’ll find a way,” said Michele Golias, of the Niles Football Mothers group.

Firefighters are waiting to review school security video, which they hope will help them determine what happened.

The Niles Football Mothers say they’ll eventually rebuild.
