BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – A renovation project is finishing up at Boardman Center Intermediate School, just before the start of school on Monday.
The school will open on Monday as Boardman Center Intermediate School as the area consolidated its middle schools. In an effort to welcome new students, volunteers spent the summer painting, planting, and cleaning the school.
Faculty said they wanted something fresh for both new and returning students.
The lockers and hallways have all been painted, and there are new green spaces, as well as artwork on every floor.
The project was not funded by taxpayer money, but rather donations from the community and fundraising.
Principal Randy Ebie said volunteers have been working tirelessly, sometimes for hours at a time. He said he’s grateful to those who care so much about this school.
“What was magical about it was the excitement,” Ebie said. “As soon as we started telling them what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it for the kids, we got a great turnout from the community, from area churches, from area businesses, our staff, board members involved in the painting process. People kind of showed up. They were just like drawn to this event.”
Some of the renovations were not easy. The oldest parts of the building are more than 100 years old.
