CORTLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – Construction of the new Lakeview Middle School has officially begun in Cortland.
School leaders, along with Hammond Construction, broke ground on the site Friday evening.
They made the event a celebration, with concession stands set up from local businesses and commemorative t-shirts on sale.
Officials say the new building will have a unique design.
It’s also being built with the future of Lakeview students and education in mind. Each classroom will utilize different types of technology important to teaching in the 21st century.
“It’s going to be a lovely Pre-K through 8th building that will house approximately 1,100 students, and it’s going to bring both of our school buildings in the district now within a block of each other, so we are very excited,” Superintendent Bob Wilson said.
The new building is set to open in 2018.
