YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Crews with the Ohio Department of Transportation started cleaning up the embankments along the Madison Avenue Expressway in Youngstown Friday.
They brought in heavy equipment to mow down trees and shrubs on the side of the road.
The city did not have the right type of machinery to keep up with the brush, so ODOT is helping with the clean up.
Youngstown Streets Foreman David Vinion says the work serves two purposes.
“It’s aesthetics as well as safety. With some of the trees, you don’t want anything coming down on the roadway when someone is coming by.”
Crews will work to clear the embankments from Belmont to Wick avenues, and should be done by Sunday.
In the meantime, there will be some lane closures in the area.
