Woman found dead following house fire in Sharon

A 56-year-old woman was found dead in the home on Wilson Avenue

A woman was found dead following a house fire in Sharon.

SHARON, Pa. (WYTV) – A 56-year-old Sharon woman is dead after her home caught on fire Friday afternoon.

Crews said the fire started in the living room of the home on Wilson Avenue.

Sherry Minto, the victim, lived in the home. The coroner ruled her death to be accidental, due to suffocating from smoke inhalation.

Family members began boarding up the windows the firefighters broke when entering the house.

Chief Robert Fiscus said the fire was contained to the living room and not a lot of damage could be seen from the outside.

Though there wasn’t much fire, there was a lot of smoke.

“There’s smoke and heat damage throughout the house. There’s minor damage structurally, there’s structural damage,” he said. “The firefighters that were doing a primary search, they had very few obstacles, only things you’d expect to find in a living room.”

Fiscus said there doesn’t appear to be any foul play.

The Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
