Four DeMedal TD’s leads Wilmington to ‘W’ over Sharon

NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – Spencer DeMedal rushed for 109 yards and four touchdowns as the Wilmington Greyhounds defeated the Sharon Tigers 30-13 in week one action.

After a bad snap on a punt gave Wilmington excellent field position, DeMedal put the Greyhounds on the board for the first time in 2016 with a 21 yard TD run. That gave Wilmington a 6-0 lead with 6:03 left in the 1st.

Following a Greyhounds field goal, Sharon’s Ziyon Strickland took a shovel pass from QB JP McComb 69 yards to close the gap. After a failed extra point the score stood 9-6 Wilmington with 5:31 remaining in the second quarter.

Wilmington then extended the lead to double digits with a second DeMedal touchdown run, this time from one yard out.  The lead was 16-6 with heading into halftime.

Strickland opened up the second half scoring with a long 59 yard touchdown reception that came off of a deflection to close the gap to 16-13 with 8:30 remaining in the third quarter.

But unfortunately for the Tigers, just 20 seconds later DeMedal sprinted 74 yards for his third score of the night to give the Greyhounds another two-score lead, this time 23-13.  DeMedal’s fourth TD would come in the final quarter.

Strickland finished the night with 10 receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
