STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) – Leagues from all around the Valley took to the diamond Sunday for a good cause.

The 7th annual co-ed Saving Second Base tournament took place at Cene Park in Struthers to benefit the fighters and survivors of breast cancer.

The softball tournament started around 9 a.m. and was sponsored by the Austintown Fraternal Order of Police.

Area church leagues were invited to participate in the late summer fun.

Organizer Brenda Rider explained what an event like this means to cancer survivors.

“It’s very moving, I gotta tell ya. Cancer touches everyone at some point in time in their life, and every family, and it’s not just breast cancer, it’s all the different kinds,” she said.

Rider is a cancer survivor who has been cancer free for 17 years. She also wanted to thank the sponsors for helping the event grow over the years.
