Game winner: Davis’ TD catch lifts Champion to 2-0

CONNEAUT, Ohio (WYTV) – With the score tied at 14, Champion’s Brandon Allen found Caleb Davis on a 6-yard strike in the endzone with 13 seconds remaining to propel the Golden Flashes to (a 20-14) victory over the homestanding Conneaut Spartans. The catch was Davis’ first of the season.

Brandon Allen connected on 13 of 31 passing for 150 yards. He also ran for 50. Noah Bayus’ only touch on the ground resulted in a 60-yard scamper for six. Bayus also hauled in 8 passes for 69 yards.

For the Spartans, quarterback Tysen Hunt passed for 123 and rushed for 100 yards in the loss. Alex Rivera was Hunt’s favorite target – catching 5 passes for 70 stripes.

Champion improves to 2-0 for the first time since 2007.

Both teams turned the ball over 3 times and finished with almost the same amount of yardage (Champion, 276; Conneaut, 268).
