McDonald thwarts Springfield comeback

The Blue Devils will travel to Black River in week three

McDONALD, Ohio (WYTV) – The McDonald Blue Devils jumped out to a two touchdown lead held on to thwart a Tiger comeback in a 20-10 victory over Springfield Friday night.

Leading 7-0 in the third quarter, Dylan Portolese connected with Joe Sudeol for a 22 yard touchdown to extend Blue Devil lead to two scores.

Springfield’s Frankie Centofanti would sprint 44 yards down the sideline to set up a Patrick Flara 20 yard field goal to put Springfield on the board.

The Tigers would close the gap to just four, 14-10, when Joey Santangelo found pay dirt from a yard out later in the third.

Alex Cintron would put the game away though for McDonald with a 19 yard touchdown in the final period.

Springfield (1-1) will host Cuyahoga Heights in week three. McDonald (1-1) will travel to Black River.
