1 dead in Youngstown crash, officer suffers electrical shock

One person was killed in a crash on Bennington Ave. in Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown police are investigating a crash where one person was killed and an officer was injured on the scene.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Bennington Avenue.

According to police, the vehicle crashed into two utility poles before hitting a tree and splitting in half.

Police confirmed Sgt. Bill Ward was shocked by a downed electric wire at the scene of the crash.

Ward was conscious when he was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, but the extent of his injuries has not been released.

Officials have not released his condition Monday.

Police say speed was a factor in the crash.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
