COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WYTV) – Two Marine helicopters landed at Firestone Farms Friday morning as part of the Columbiana Street Fair.
The two choppers touched down at the park’s softball fields.
The aircraft, known as Cobra gunships, are from the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squad 7-73. A local Marine veteran flew the very same helicopters in the service.
“It’s great. I mean, it’s going to smell like jet fuel, so I’m going to smell jet fuel and I’m going to feel the rotor pounding in my chest. I’m going to hear the growl of the tail rotor, and it’s going to feel like home,” said retired USMC helicopter pilot Col. Brian Kennedy.
The choppers were on the ground most of the day. Kennedy said it gives the community an idea of what the military does and the pieces that they use to fight in wars.
“It also gives them the opportunity to do a little one-on-one with the pilots,” he said.
The 130th Columbiana Street Fair runs until 11 p.m. Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday.
