Police: Escapee from boys’ institution tries to steal woman’s car

Police said after the woman discovered the teen hiding in her car, he chased her into Sheetz and tried to get her keys

MERCER, Pa. (WYTV) – Police said an escapee from a boys’ institution hid in the backseat of a woman’s car and tried to steal her car from a Sheetz parking lot.

Police were called to the Sheetz on W. Main Street in Pine Township just after midnight on Wednesday.

A 52-year-old Carlton woman told police that she found the teen in the back seat of her car when she returned to the parking lot from the store. When he was discovered, the teen then charged at the woman and chased her into the Sheetz, she said.

Pennsylvania State Police said the 15-year-old boy cornered the woman behind a food preparation area and demanded that she give her his keys. When an employee confronted him, he ran away.

The teen had left George Junior Republic, where he was staying. He was caught by George Junior Republic staff a short time later.

Charges are expected to be filed.
