Howland wins thriller in Poland

The Howland Tigers come from ten points down to beat the Poland Bulldogs

POLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – The Howland Tigers kept their early-season playoff hopes alive with a thrilling 35-34 victory over the Poland Bulldogs Friday night.

Poland QB Cole Kosco ran in a touchdown for the Bulldogs to give them the early 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, Howland tied the game when Steve Baugh picked off an errant Bulldog pass and returned it 25 yards for a score.

Poland’s Jonah Spencer scored from four yards out to put the Bulldogs back ahead, 14-7.

Spencer scored again later in the quarter to extend the lead to 21-7.

Baugh came up big for the Tigers again on defense right before the half, blocking a Poland punt and returning it for a touchdown to close the gap to 21-14.

Following a Poland field goal, Tyriq Ellis ran in a long touchdown for Howland to close the gap to just three points. Poland led 24-21 after three.

Confusion took over on the field on a Howland punt that traveled a short distance, and when the whistle didn’t blow, a Poland player picked up the ball and returned it for a score to extend the Bulldog lead to 31-21.

Howland’s Samari Dean threw a pair of 80 yard touchdowns passes in the final seven minutes to give the Tigers a come-from-behind win.

Howland (2-2) will host Hubbard in week five. Poland (2-2) will travel to Edgewood.
