YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown Schools CEO Krish Mohip will be headed to the White House next week for a special meeting about supporting girls of color in education.
The all-day meeting on Monday will focus on disproportionate barriers that marginalized groups, specifically girls of color, face when it comes to education.
The discussion will include ways school systems can improve their approach with girls of color who have experienced trauma.
Several organizations in Washington, D.C. invited representatives from Youngstown and Cleveland to attend the meeting because of the high rates of trauma in these city schools.
The multidisciplinary team of representatives will put together their experience with trauma-informed work, school discipline and health supports for underserved student populations.
Director of Student Services Dominque Howse will also attend the meeting.
