VIENNA, Ohio (WYTV) – The Trumbull County 4-H Shooting Sports Pioneers Club hosted a free NRA Youth Sportsfest at the Fish and Game Club of Vienna on Saturday.

The event gave kids ages nine to 18 the opportunity to safely shoot guns under adult supervision. They had the chance to use a 22 rifle, 22 pistol, shotgun, muzzle-loading rifle and archery equipment.

The Sportsfest had two primary goals for the safety and future of children.

“We’re here … to show kids gun safety. Secondly, we want to demystify guns, let them actually handle guns under proper supervision and not have to go hunt through their parents’ sock drawer to find the guns to see what it’s all about,” said Larry Beardsley, a Trumbull 4-H Shooting Club advisor.

A certified instructor taught gun safety lessons to all the kids and their parents before the shooting events began.
