BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Akron Children’s Hospital Miracles and Promises Radiothon begins this week and organizers hope this year raises enough money to help Mahoning Valley families.
All of the money raised stays in the area, according to JoAnn Stock, with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. She said the Radiothon is the hospital’s largest fundraising event of the year.
“Over the past seven years, this has raised $1.2 million for our local programs and services, so it’s a great fundraising event,” she said. “But more than that, it’s a great way, since we have more than 36 hours of radio time, to tell our story and focus on patients, families, programs and services and educate the public about everything we do and the people that we help.”
Money raised will help families pay for medical care.
Radio station Mix 98.9 is a partner in the Miracles and Promises Radiothon, and Daybreak will be going live in the mornings to cover the event. Stock said families will be there to talk about how they were helped by Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
“That is what is so great about the Radiothon,” Stock said. “Every hour, we have one or two families talk about how they were helped by the hospital and how much it means to them to have a local children’s hospital right here in the Mahoning Valley, so we’re thrilled that Daybreak is going to be there, too.”
Those interested in donating can call 888-746-9890 during the Radiothon, or 330-746-9122 any time.
Daybreak is also collecting donations online. Check here to donate to Katie’s, Len’s or Jim’s team.
