Suspect charged in Howland cold case in Trumbull County Jail

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Howland rape suspect is in Trumbull County Jail Tuesday after he was picked up from New York.

Jack Sheetz, 48, is charged with rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary in a 20-year-old Howland case.

Investigators said new DNA testing led to Sheetz, who was living in Utica.

He is charged with the rape and attack of an elderly woman inside her Howland Township home in 1996. No arrest was ever made and the case went cold.

Sheetz was a neighbor of the then 75-year-old victim, who has since died. He was questioned years ago, but denied any involvement and there was no evidence against him.
