YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Thursday was National Falls Prevention Day, and that’s why the Area Agency on Aging 11 held its “Striking a Balance Health Fair and Walkathon.”

There were a number of events Thursday inside the Wick Park Recreation Center, including a Thai Chi presentation. The agency was also helping the state reach its goal of 10 million steps for fall prevention.

“One of the biggest issues with seniors and those with disabilities are falls, so about every day there are three deaths from people falling, and so the best way to prevent falls is to teach people to live healthier active lives, so it’s actually really important,” said Ingrid Moore, of the Area Agency on Aging.

The Area Agency on Aging provides a number of services, including family caregiver support and home repair assistance.
