In a tough defensive battle, the Panthers broke the tie on a Jared Mercer two yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Following a small delay, the Panthers added to their early lead with another Mercer one yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 as the two teams headed into the locker room.

With 1:53 remaining in the third quarter Spartans finally found the endzone on a 21 yard touchdown pass from Mike O’Horo to Travis Koontz to cut the Perry lead to a single score.

Then with 2:29 remaining in the game the Panthers’ Mercer struck again from only one yard out to increase the lead to 21-6, which was enough for the Panthers to pick up the win.

Boardman (2-3) will visit Canfield in week six.
