YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – St. Vincent DePaul’s soup kitchen in Youngstown had a water line break in a bathroom Friday night above its main dining hall.

The water leak caused the ceiling to collapse into the dining room. There is also minor water damage to the kitchen.

The soup kitchen called in a fire and water repair company to fix the damages.

The water line break was discovered around 8 p.m. Friday night by cleaning crews.

The dining hall is now closed while repairs are being made. An exact date as to when it will open is not known, but Dining Hall Manager Wayne Murray said it could take up to one week.

St. Vincent DePaul was supposed to serve a free breakfast to the public from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday morning, but it was cancelled. All other services have been cancelled until damages are repaired.

St. Vincent DePaul said it had to turn away 60 people Saturday morning who unknowingly showed up to receive a free breakfast.

The soup kitchen is reaching out to area businesses and asking them to donate sandwiches for a cold packed lunch that will be passed out this Monday through Friday during normal meal times. People can go to the soup kitchen and stand outside to receive the free meals.
