BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – It took over a year for a deal to be reached, but Boardman trustees and the board of education finally agreed to a property exchange.
The swap would clear the way for a new township fire station and school bus garage.
Trustees say the current fire station is old and needs replaced, while school administrators say a new bus garage will allow all transportation to be under one roof.
The property exchange will also save taxpayers money.
“Doing a swap of property and acquiring the land at a little discount, because we’re doing some land value equalization,” said Boardman Township administrator Jason Loree. “When we sell our property the main fire station sits on, we’ll be able to apply that amount on the construction of a brand new fire station, which is something we wouldn’t do if we had to build on our current site.”
Loree says he hopes construction for the new fire station will begin in the spring of 2017.
