Armed and Dangerous: New Castle police looking for suspect

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WYTV) – Police in New Castle are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect accused in a string of crimes.

According to WTAE in Pittsburgh, police attempted to serve an arrest warrant Thursday for Ernest Chapman, 24, of Detroit when he took off and led them on a chase.

Police were working an undercover operation and were attempting to make a drug buy and serve the warrant on Fern Street when Chapman ran from the home.

Police say Chapman got into a car, sped away through a neighbor’s yard and into an alley where he hit a police cruiser. He then hit a tree, hopped out of the car and ran into nearby woods.

Officers searched for Chapman and put nearby schools on lockdown while they combed the neighborhood but didn’t find him. They learned later that Chapman was picked up by someone in a silver sedan.

A search of Chapman’s home uncovered $10,000 in cash, heroin and cellular phones.

Chapman is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Chapman’s whereabouts is asked to call New Castle Police at (724) 656-3570.
