The following Cardinals possession did not go as well. A Boardman player intercepted a Cardinals pass and returned it to the Canfield 23 yard line. A few plays later, Mike O’Horo ran it in for the first Spartan score of the night from 18 yards out. The extra point went wide right, closing the gap to 7-6.

The next Canfield possession led to another turnover when a mishandled punt led to a Boardman recovery on the 36 yard line. Eventually, Koby Adu-Poku would score his 7th touchdown of the season from two yards out to give Boardman their first lead, 13-7.

Canfield would take that lead back with under a minute remaining in the first half. Paul Breinz scored from 21 yards away to cap a 7 play, 67 yard drive to pull back ahead, 14-13.

Canfield’s Sam Accordion kicked a 38 yard field goal to end the half.

Boardman put together a long, 14 play, 77 yard drive to open the second half that took over seven minutes off of the clock. That drive culminated in Adu-Poku’s second score of the night, again from two yards away, to give Boardman a 20-17 lead.

Canfield would match that score with a long drive of their own on the following possession. Cummings’ second touchdown of the night would come from 10 yards out, capping an 11 play 96 yard drive to put the lead back in Canfield’s hands with 9:58 remaining in the game, 24-20.

Boardman had possession of the ball with 1:37 remaining in the game, but a Canfield interception ended the comeback attempt.
