Driver accused of slow-speed semi chase appears in Youngstown court

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A man police say led officers on a chase through several municipalities in a semi truck appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court on Friday.

Ronnie Lee Utt is charged with prohibited vehicle, failure to comply, no driver’s license and with a seat belt violation.

The slow-speed chase involving Utt started about 3:30 a.m. Thursday in Salem. Troopers put down spike strips on the road in Canfield to stop him, but that didn’t work and the chase continued 30 miles before he finally stopped on the north side of Youngstown.

Police said the truck Utt was driving was reported missing in Massillon and that Utt himself was entered as a missing and endangered person in Canton. Utt did not have a valid license, according to investigators.

Friday, bond was set at $3,000. Utt is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 17.
