YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The morning commute for drivers in Mahoning and Trumbull counties is a lot easier Friday following three accidents that created traffic tie-ups and road closures.
The latest was Thursday night about 11:45 p.m. when a tractor-trailer carrying three vehicles rolled over on I-80 westbound in Liberty Township.
A gas tank on the side of the semi was crushed and diesel fuel leaked onto the road. HAZMAT was called to the scene. That accident is clear and traffic is moving freely.
At 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a tractor-trailer went off the side of the road and rolled over on I-80 in Hubbard Township. No lanes were blocked because the semi was off to the side of the road. Crews will work to clear the truck early Friday morning. The road may temporarily be blocked when the truck is pulled out and towed away.
A passenger was treated for minor injuries at St. Elizabeth Hospital in that accident.
Thursday morning, a tractor-trailer carrying around 8,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over on I-80 in Liberty Township and caught fire. Portions of the intersection were closed until Thursday afternoon. All lanes in that are clear and traffic is moving freely.
Heavy construction areas peppered along I-80 creates a challenge for travelers and emergency crews. During Thursday morning’s accident, some firefighters were delayed getting to the scene because of the heavy traffic tie-ups and detours.
