YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Women from across Mahoning County gathered Friday morning for the ninth annual Women’s Leadership Conference, organized by the YWCA.

Friday’s event was all about empowering women and encouraging them to grow in leadership.

Women of all ages and backgrounds attended. Several speakers shared their stories on wearing many hats to having several generations in the workforce.

It’s events like this that encourage women to step up and be more present when it comes to leadership, said YWCA President Leah Merritt.

“Women are 51 percent of the population but a very small percentage of leadership in political office, in corporations and so forth,” she said. “The statistics are staggering. Not only that, there’s also gender pay equity issues.”

Other topics covered included “How to Negotiate Like a Girl” and “Finances for the Future,” along with resources for women and networking opportunities.
