New Wilmington man killed in Wheatland industrial accident

WHEATLAND, Pa. (WYTV) – An Amish worker from New Wilmington was killed Monday during an industrial accident at a sawmill in Wheatland.

The Mercer County Coroner confirmed that 37-year-old Steven Yoder’s death was accidental. He said Yoder died from a penetrating trauma to the head.

Hermitage Police and rescue crews were sent to Omega, Inc. just before 2 p.m. for the workplace accident.

The coroner said a sawmill mishap caused wood to be thrown and hit Yoder in the head. The wood kicked back while he was operating a piece of sawmill equipment, according to police.

Police said Yoder was wearing safety equipment at the time of the accident.

According to its website, the company manufactures hardwoods and industrial lumber.
