AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A substitute teacher working at Austintown Local Schools is facing criminal charges after an investigation into allegations that he took secret photos of students in class.
Police were called to Austintown Fitch High School on Wednesday after reports from several students that Brent Davis, a substitute teacher, had used profanity in front of students and appeared to be taking pictures of them on his phone.
Several students said Davis was discretely taking photos of male and female students during class. They also accused him of rubbing a female student’s leg.
Police questioned Davis, who first said they could look at his phone for the pictures. Davis, who was unlocking his phone, appeared to be trying to delete photos, according to police.
He was told to put the phone on the table at which time he said he changed his mind and did not want anyone to see the photos on his phone, because he had personal photos on his phone from a European trip, according to a police report.
The phone and an electronic tablet were seized as evidence. Davis was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and later with gross sexual imposition, according to court records.
He appeared in court Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. A $9,250 bond was set, and a preliminary hearing was set for 11 a.m. October 26.
Davis is an Air Force retiree who last month was training for a marathon to benefit the Rescue Mission.
