Poland Girls Golf bound for state

CANTON, Ohio (WYTV) – The Poland Girls Golf team has advanced to the upcoming Division II State Tournament in Columbus.  The Bulldogs placed third at Districts in Canton on Tuesday, shooting 387 as a team.

Independence garnered first-place honors at Districts, while and Cloverleaf finished in second-place.

Poland team members include:
Gina Ungaro – Senior
Jenna Jacobson – Sophomore
Marlie McConnell – Sophomore
Elena Cammac – Sophomore
Carly Ungaro – Freshman

This will be Poland’s fifth trip to State in program history, and the first since 2011.  The Bulldogs won a state title back in 2008, and finished as state runner-up in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Poland posted a record of 11-4 in match-play during the season.

Head Coach Joe Colella is thrilled to be taking his team back to Columbus:

” I told them from the beginning that I believe in them.  They have worked really hard and put the time in.  They’re an awesome group of young ladies,” he said.

The 2016 Girls Golf State Tournament begins Friday October 14th, and runs through Saturday October 15th at the Ohio State University Gray Course in Columbus.
