Man sentenced to jail time in Austintown child endangering case

Devin Telego was convicted of causing severe injuries to his baby in January

Devin Telego arrested for child endangerment.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A man convicted of abusing his infant son will spend three years in jail and three years on probation.

Devin Telego was sentenced Wednesday in a Mahoning County courthouse. He was convicted Tuesday of one county of child endangering, but the jury was deadlocked on the other charges.

Telego was charged with hurting his 3-month-old son in January. At the time, police say Telego told them he had only bounced the baby on his knee, but doctors discovered head injuries to the child so severe that he may be disabled.

“We want justice for these victims. I really do believe that the jury got it right in this case and the state is satisfied,” said Prosecutor Steve Maszczak said Tuesday.

Judge Scott Krichbaum said the sentence didn’t fit the crime.

“The maximum penalty is inadequate, but it’s all that’s left to the court.”

Telego’s attorney said later that he intends to file an appeal.

The baby is doing better now.
