Return of statues to Mahoning County Courthouse delayed

Due to unforeseen additional work on the statues, they will not be placed back on the roof this month, as scheduled

Statues are being returned to the Mahoning County Courthouse after its renovation.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Statues that once sat on top of the Mahoning County Courthouse will not be returning as soon as planned.

The copper statues were shipped out to be repaired as part of a courthouse renovation project. They were scheduled to be on display in October before they were mounted on the roof.

Jim Fortunato, head of Mahoning County’s Purchasing Department, said unforeseen additional work on the statues’ pedestal due to asbestos in the roofing material has pushed the timeline back. He anticipates the statues will be put back up in November, but the project may be delayed until spring.

Work has been going on for two years at a cost of more than $6 million.
