SALEM, Ohio (WYTV) – The Salem Car Wash is making sure no one goes hungry by hosting a fundraiser throughout the month of October.
For every customer who buys an “ultimate car wash” or “the works wash,” the business will donate $2 to the Second Harvest Food Bank, who is sponsoring the fundraiser.
“If a customer brings in a canned good item, they save $1 on a car wash,” said Ken Rapini of Salem Car Wash.
Just one non-perishable item does a lot for the food bank.
“We’re able to take $1 and produce $11 worth of food for that $1,” said Mike Iberis of the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Iberis said hunger is a huge problem in the Valley.
“Every week we are seeing approximately 15,000 people showing up at a soup kitchen or a pantry for food,” he said.
This is the third year for the “Wash Away Hunger” fundraiser.
“We’ve been able to raise over $1,200 each time, and customers have donated over 100 pounds of food each time,” Iberis said. “We’ve been able to produce almost 18,000 meals with the money they have contributed to us.”
The fundraiser will continue throughout the month of October.
