Nugget of Knowledge: Hidden Keyboard Characters

Use the number keypad to unlock a multitude of characters

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) –  Ever want to add a ¢ symbol? Hey, how did I do that? You won’t find it on a keyboard button.

Here’s just one of many websites that can help you make special symbols such as the euro or the trademark sign in your e-mails and letters.

Hit “Num Lock” first to make sure it’s on. Then while pressing the Alt key, press certain number combinations on the key pad.

For example, “Alt 156” produces the sign for the British pound, “Alt 155” is the cent sign for American money and “Alt 0153” is the trademark sign.

If you wanted to tell someone what the temperature was, hit “Alt 0176” for the ° symbol.
