YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Eighth grade students at Chaney STEM took a field trip to Mill Creek Park Wednesday to learn how to monitor the water.

Environmental engineers from General Motors taught the students how it’s done.

The students were split into groups and given water testing kits. Then, they headed out to creek to test the water to find out the health of the stream.

The trip showed students how they can have an impact in their community, according to GM Environmental Engineer Maia Hoffman.

“In year’s past, students have done stenciling around storm drains so that people know if they dump there it’s going directly into their water supply,” Hoffman said.

This is the 10th year that GM has worked with Chaney students to put on the event.
