NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Cleveland Indians championship gear is flying off the shelves. Some fans are searching store after store just to get their hands on memorabilia.
For Valley Tribe fans, Wednesday night’s big win over Toronto is nothing short of “amazing.”
“It’s just after the Cavs, now this, it’s great. I mean, I don’t know what to say. It’s awesome,” Joe Narry said.
Their excitement is translating into big sales for sports stores.
“This has actually surpassed the Cavs so far, but we’ll see how it goes…with the World Series,” said Andy Agona, manager at Sports Obsession at the Eastwood Mall. “That’s going to be, you know, when they win, it’s going to be wild.”
Sports Obsession employees say it’s been difficult to keep up. They sold over 100 shirts within two hours of being open.
“We opened at 10 and it’s just been very quick,” Agona said. “We’ve just been selling it like crazy, it’s been wild. This entire morning we had two full cases. We’re sold down to like, 11 shirts and that’s just right now. Talk to me in five minutes, we may be out.”
Meaning some fans are leaving stores empty-handed.
“I’m having a hard time finding a lot of them. A lot of them were sold out last night,” Dave Hoover said.
Agona says they will be ordering more gear throughout the series.
“We’re going to get World Series shirts that may have the Indians and the opposing team on it, and we’ll get different hats, and different styles of shirts and jerseys.”
He doesn’t know exactly when the new shipments will arrive, but expects them to come Friday and early next week.
