YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Cavs’ NBA Championship trophy made a stop at Youngstown State Friday night for fans to snap a quick picture with.
Thousands of excited fans waited in line to see the Larry O’Brien trophy in all its golden glory.
Its entourage is celebrating a winning season the best way they know how; by taking the party and championship trophy on the road.
“It’s the first one in 52 years, so it’s definitely good. Not only for Cleveland, but the entire state of Ohio,” said the Cavaliers’ in-arena host, Ahmaad Crump.
Team representatives say they want fans be a part of the celebration, so devoted followers of all ages made sure to take a selfie with the trophy and Cavalier girls.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever seen since moving to the Cleveland area. I mean, I’m like, emotional,” Francis Baffoe said.
Anthony Micco was hoping to see his team win in the Finals.
“I thought it was over when it was 3 to 1, but thank god they pulled it out. Shout out to Kyrie for that three-pointer at the end and LeBron for that block.”
The trophy itself weighs about 14 pounds and is solid 24 karat gold. It’s a sight that faithful Cavs fans have been dying to see.
“The drought’s over! I knew about this weeks ago and I knew I was going to be here, hands down,” James Macgregor said.
There was another team on everyone’s minds Friday night, as Tuesday marks two big games in Believeland: the first World Series game for the Indians and the Cavs’ season opening.
“We’re talking about ring night for the Cavs and World Series game number one, it’s crazy,” Baffoe said. “Come to Cleveland, that’s the city to be in. It’s insane, downtown is going to be insane, I’m so excited.”
Because Game 1 of the World Series will be in Cleveland, LeBron James and the Cavs will get their 2016 championship rings half an hour earlier than originally scheduled. Tuesday’s game now starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Indians game will start at 8:00 p.m. at Progressive Field.
