COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WYTV) – Church is something usually reserved for humans. But on Sunday, dogs got in on the blessings too.
A Pet Blessing Ceremony was held outside of St. Jude’s Church in Columbiana in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi — the patron Saint of animals.
The deacon held a scripture reading and homily before individually blessing each pet and their owner.
“Its amazing how much love is shared between the animal and their human family,” Deacon David Arend said. “Like I said, they just become part of the family.”
The church plans to hold this ceremony again next year.
